(Host) Vermont’s two largest electric utilities say power has been restored to all but about 50 of their customers.

Dottie Schnure is with Green Mountain Power.

(Schnure) “We are reaching the end of the restoration outage. At this point in the middle of the afternoon we have about 14 customers without power. And we do expect to get them back on this evening.”

(Host) Central Vermont Public Service also has reduced the number of customers without electricity throughout the day.

Thousands across the Northeast lost power when an ice storm coated the region a week ago. In Vermont, the worst damage was in rural areas of western Windham County.

Schnure says Green Mountain Power has sent six of its line crews to New Hampshire to help restore power there.

(Schnure) “But we are keeping extra crews down in southern Vermont. We do expect more tree branches to break and more outages to occur. It just does happen after a storm of this magnitude. And, also, a number of the homes in southern Vermont are second homes. So we expect some folks that arrive in Vermont this weekend to discover they don’t have power and they may be the only ones out in their area. So we do expect to have some new outages called in.”

(Host) If there are people who still need assistance, the state advises that they call 211 for help.
