The principal of a Burlington elementary school who was hired after a national search is resigning after less than a year on the job.

Trevor Christopher, co-principal at the Integrated Arts Academy at HO Wheeler, announced Monday that he is resigning on June 30.

The Burlington Free Press reports that he will be out on medical leave from beginning February 20th until the end of the school year for injuries he sustained this fall after slipping at the school during a performance.

Superintendent of Schools Jeanne Collins says she will recommend Bobby Riley, a co-principal of IAA, as interim principal for the coming school year while the school searches for a new, permanent principal.

Neither Collins nor Christopher would comment on why he is resigning.
