In Brattleboro, as in many towns these days, there’s always a waiting list for space in the local shelter.

Last January some agencies that work with the homeless joined with area churches to open an ‘overflow shelter’ on the very coldest nights, so that people with nowhere else to sleep could get inside. This year, with help from an emergency grant from the state, the overflow shelter is open *every night from November through April.

VPR’s Susan Keese stopped by one night recently and met some of the people who are taking advantage of the service.
