Psychiatric hospital fails inspection

Officials at Vermont State Hospital are trying to make corrections after failing a joint state-federal inspection last month. The Waterbury psychiatric facility, which usually holds around 50 patients, was faulted for locking some patients into their rooms overnight without immediate access to restrooms. The commissioner of Developmental and Mental Health Services says the chief problem is a shortage of staff at the hospital.
