Vermont forest managers have a new resource to help manage ash trees and prepare for a possible infestation of an invasive beetle that has destroyed tens of millions of the trees over the past decade.
The emerald ash borer has not been detected in Vermont but state Forester Steve Sinclair says the state encourages forest landowners to plan ahead for any future potential infestation.
The publication, Ash Management Guidelines for Forest Managers, can be found on the Vermont Forest, Parks and Recreation web site or through a county forester.
Researchers in New York said last week that the emerald ash borer has been found east of the Hudson River for the first time, marking its closest known threat to New England.
