A Quaker teacher is hoping to open what would become the first school in Vermont associated with the Society of Friends.

Annie Galloway of Bristol is leading the effort to open what would become the Green Mountain Friends School.

The school would start small and work toward serving students in kindergarten through grade eight.

The new school’s board is raising money, applying for grants and looking for a location somewhere in the Champlain valley.

The school would emphasize Quaker beliefs such as simplicity, nonviolence, equality and service.
