The head of the state National Guard says a fund-raiser for the families of Vermont service members is being tainted by politics. The Vermont Military Family Assistance Fund is holding a fund-raising concert for guard families later this month. Before the concert, Republican Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie is hosting an event of his own.
Adjutant General Martha Rainville says Dubie’s gathering is giving the appearance that the concert is a political event. The Dubie campaign sent out invitations to a $125 a person “meet and greet” with Dubie. The ticket includes admission to the military concert. Rainville says guard officials weren’t told until yesterday that Dubie planned to donate the proceeds from his gathering to the military family fund.
Both events are August 14 at Saint Michael’s College.
