Regional Report: Negotiations With Quebec Students Halted

For the past 16 weeks students and government officials in Quebec have been wrangling over a decision to raise the tuition paid by university students.  This week, talks between the student movement and the Quebec government have been taking place in Quebec City, in an effort to calm the unrest. Those talks broke off on Thursday.

But the protests, if anything, have been growing in size and sound. Kevin Dougherty, the Quebec Bureau Chief for the Montreal Gazette, tells VPR’s Mitch Wertlieb the protests are louder than ever now that students have picked up pots and pans.
