A sweeping renewable energy bill passed by the Vermont Senate is headed for debate in the House.

The Senate passed its version late Tuesday for the House to review Thursday.

The House will hear supporters tout the bill as a vehicle to encourage growth in renewable energy. It will also hear critics counter by saying it causes consumer prices to increase.

Democratic Senate President Peter Shumlin says the bill will ultimately expand renewable energy statewide and generate jobs for the state’s residents.

Consumers could see price increases that range from slightly less than 1 percent to 3 percent.
