A man accused of killing a teenager in a drunken driving crash will be back in court today, this time to changed his plea to charges stemming from a crash last November that killed a teenager from West Swanton.

A hearing is set this afternoon for 33-year-old Shawn Burritt, a three-time DUI offender who police say drove the wrong way on Interstate 89 and collided with an oncoming car November 17th, killing 18-year-old Nicholas Fournier.

Burritt, of Jericho, whose driver’s license had already been suspended for life, has pleaded not guilty to three felony charges and two misdemeanors stemming from the crash.

Fournier’s friends and family members rallied recently at the Vermont Statehouse, calling on lawmakers to stiffen penalties for repeat drunk drivers.
