A governor’s commission charged with making recommendations on how to reduce greenhouse gases is expected to recommend that the state’s colleges and universities play a key role in that effort.

The climate change commission has been working since December of 2005 and could release its final report today.

According to a draft of the report, establishing a relationship between the state and Vermont’s colleges and universities is a top priority.

The draft also says the state must focus on the efficient use of energy, public transportation, and ride sharing and to maintain farmland and forests to reduce carbon dioxide pollution.
