Report grades Rutland air quality

A new report says the air in Rutland County is pretty good. But it’s not perfect.

A report by the American Lung Association gives Rutland County a B for the quality of the air.

Vermont Lung Association President John Cronin says the grade means there are one or two days a year when the quality of the air could pose a problem for people in at-risk groups, such as those with chronic lung problems.

Like Rutland County, Bennington and Chittenden counties, also received Bs for their air quality.

The state’s top air pollution official, Richard Valentinetti, says Vermont meets the federal government’s health standards, but most of the rest of the country does not.
