Restrictions on overtime plowing questioned

The mayor of Rutland says he will send out snow plows after hours if the conditions warrant it after city officials questioned his plan to cut back on overtime plowing.

Last week Mayor Christopher Louras said he was reducing overtime plowing.

The move comes after three months of cleaning up constant snow, sleet, slush and ice in one of the messiest winters in years.

There’s less than $4,000 left in the overtime plowing budget of $95,000.

But after some city aldermen questioned whether the plan would threaten public safety, Louras said he never planned to ban overtime plowing altogether. He said he would send out street and sidewalk plows after hours if needed.
