(Host) A reward has been doubled to $10,000 for information about a deadly arson fire in Lyndonville.
St. Johnsbury firefighter Gene McDonough was killed nine years ago today when a brick exterior wall fell on him as he battled a blaze in Lyndonville.
The Professional Firefighters of Vermont union helped to raise money to increase the size of the reward. Matt Vinci is president of the union.
(Vinci) "We’re hoping that with the announcement of some additional money and a reward that somebody will come forward with information leading to what started this fire so there can be some conclusion to this."
(Host) Investigators quickly concluded that the fire at the PMI Warehouse was intentionally set. But they have not identified a suspect.
Vinci says that’s not unusual.
(Vinci) "It’s a very tough crime to solve. Usually a lot of the evidence is destroyed. We feel that somebody may know something that will lead to finding who’s responsible for this tragic event."
(Host) McDonough was the only St. Johnsbury firefighter who has died in the line of duty.
