A 34-year-old Rutland man is confessing to starting at least six fires set in trash bins over the last several months.

Police say James Oney was arrested on Wednesday after police received a series of emergency calls reporting a fire at the Frito Lay building.

Oney was spotted near the fires and later located by police.

Rutland police say Oney confessed to starting three trash bin fires yesterday as well as fires earlier this year at the Number One Chinese Restaurant, the Rutland Middle School and at the Italian-American Club.

Most of the fires did little damage, but the May fire at the Italian-American Club spread and did about $75,000 in damage.

Oney was due in court today to answer six arson charges.
