A cooperative crafter store could soon occupy a vacant storefront as the result of a Rutland partnership’s offer a year’s free rent to a business willing to move downtown.

Downtown Rutland Partnership executive director Michael Coppinger says the business made up of 12 crafters who will share space was selected from 10 applications.

Coppinger says the deal still has to be finalized, but is confident the business will be approved.

He says the committee is viewing the selection as helping not just one business, but 12 small businesses.

Coppinger says a meeting with the group is scheduled for Wednesday.
