Rutland Southwest Teachers Strike

Schools are closed today in the Rutland Southwest Supervisory Union, after teachers and school board negotiators were unable to reach an agreement in talks to avert a strike.

The closed schools are Middletown Springs Elementary School, Poultney Elementary and High Schools, Tinmouth Elementary and Wells Village School.

The teachers say agreements were reached on salary, health care premium increases, and an end to step-increases in pay. But the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement on work rules. No new talks are scheduled at this time.

Meanwhile, a strike has been averted in the Windham Northeast Supervisory Union, so classes will continue as planned today. Teachers say they had worked all year without a contract. Details of the deal will not be released until it’s ratified by teachers and the supervisory union boards.
