Officials in the Rutland area are hoping to win $320,000 in economic development money from FairPoint Communications, Vermont’s largest phone company.
The company is putting up the money as matching funds to help spur economic development.
FairPoint will select one region in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine to receive matching funds to implement what the company calls its Vital Economy initiative.
FairPoint consultant Jim Haguewood says the initiative is designed to get people working together, finding resources and using those resources in a collaborative manner.
FairPoint met Wednesday in Castleton with regional officials. Additional meetings are being planned throughout the state.
