(Host)  Rutland’s outdoor farmer’s market kicks off its summer season tomorrow with a parade.

As VPR’s Nina Keck reports, the popular outdoor market will have a record number of vendors.

(Keck)  Greg Cox owns Boardman Hill Farm in West Rutland.    He’s been part of the downtown farmer’s market for years and led efforts to launch Rutland’s indoor winter market.   He says the year round events bring in about a million dollars to the local economy.   A figure, he says is growing.   Cox says this summer’s farmer’s market, will have between 80 and 90 vendors – a 30% increase over last year.

(Cox)  "We’ve really been trying to reach out to the community, reach out to other vendors to let them know there are opportunities here and to let them know the local food movement is alive and well in Rutland for sure."

(Keck)  Mayor Chirstopher Louras will lead tomorrow’s parade and throw out the ceremonial first radish as well as seed packets to parade goers.

For VPR news, I’m Nina Keck in Rutland.

(Host) Rutland’s summer farmers market runs from 9am til 2pm every Saturday through October.
