Marc vanderHeyden, the president of Saint Michael’s College, will leave the college in June of 2007. VanderHeyden said the coming academic year will be his last at Saint Michael’s since arriving at the college in 1996.

VanderHeyden told a college meeting on Friday that when he leaves he’ll be in his late sixties and it will be the time to try something else.

During his tenure the college celebrated its centennial and the student academic profile was strengthened. There were many construction projects, among them new residence halls and a new welcome center. The college also received the massive collection of books, correspondence and papers of renowned scholar Harold Bloom. And the Vermont Youth Orchestra received a new home in Fort Ethan Allen.

In his announcement, VanderHeyden said the college is on firm financial footing.

He is the fifteenth president of the liberal arts residential Catholic college in Colchester.
