State Auditor Tom Salmon is forming an exploratory committee as he mulls a possible run next year against Senator Bernie Sanders.
The Burlington Free Press reports Salmon has been hinting at a possible campaign for months. Yesterday’s move allows Salmon to raise money for the effort. Salmon says he has to weigh the impact of a campaign on his family.
Salmon is a Republican who switched to the GOP in 2009 from the Democratic Party.
Sanders is an independent first elected to Congress in 1990 and elected to the Senate in 2006.
