One year ago on September 1, Vermont’s same-sex marriage law went into effect. By the end of July, 1,044 same-sex marriages had been performed in Vermont. More than half of those marriages were out-of-state couples whose unions may not be recognized at home. It begs the question, what are the real benefits of this law?

We discuss the impact of the law with the president of the Vermont Bar Association, Eileen Blackwood, an attorney who’s advocated for same-sex marriage.
