Sanders Says Data Shows Burlington Gas Price Hikes

Gas prices in the Burlington area were between ten cents and 43 cents higher than a Federal Trade Commission computer model projected they should be in the month of June.

That’s according to data the commission released to Senator Bernie Sanders. The data tracks actual gas prices and compares them to a projection of high and low prices. The Senator has called for a federal investigation into why gas prices in the Burlington area are higher than the rest of the state.

AAA says the average prices of gas in Vermont is $3.53, but in the Burlington area, the average price of gas is $3.60.

Sanders says in recent days Burlington gas prices are 15 to 29 cents higher than prices charged by stations 35 miles away. And the senator says he hasn’t heard a good explanation on why the prices are higher in Burlington.
