(Host) Senator Bernie Sanders is supporting workers at a federal immigration center in St. Albans who are trying to get a pay increase.

The workers are employed by the Northrop Grumman Corporation, a federal contractor that operates the US Citizenship and Immigration Service Center.

Sanders says about 125 workers have not received a raise in four years. He says Northrop Grumman has now proposed a contractor that would mean no raises for three more years.

(Sanders) And then what they want to do on top of that is take away the five sick days – the personal days these people used to have. At a time when inflation is growing higher, people are going to be paying very high fuel bills in the state of Vermont this year, at a time when many of these workers are single moms trying to bring up their kids, I think it is an outrage that Northrop Grumman is treating these workers with such disrespect.

(Host) Sanders says the workers help screen immigrants and help keep potential terrorists out of the country. He says he wants to review the contract Northrop Grumman has to operate the center.
