School Closed, Travel Difficult As Storm Begins

A major winter storm is bearing down on the region. Many schools in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire are closed.

The storm is expected to dump up to 2 feet of snow in Massachusetts by tomorrow. Some areas of Vermont and New Hampshire could get eight to 14 inches.

The Amtrak Vermonter is canceled between Springfield, Massachusetts and St. Albans today.

 

Vermont’s largest utility company Green Mountain Power says contract line and tree crews are in place should power outages occur. But with light fluffy snow falling, outages are not expected to be a big concern.

Vermont Emergency Management is urging everyone to use caution on the roads this morning, and to check on their neighbors, especially elderly people who many need help with snow removal.

Plows are out on the roads this morning. But the Vermont Agency of Transportation is reporting fair winter driving conditions this morning.  

State Troopers from the Williston barracks are dealing with a multiple car crash on Southbound Interstate 89 in the Bolton flats area. And there are significant traffic delays in the area. Vermont State Police are asking for patience on the roadway today.
