Teachers and school boards in the Addison-Rutland Supervisory Union reached a tentative agreement this morning, averting a strike and allowing classes to continue as usual.

A federal mediator had scheduled talks between the parties, and those negotiations continued until about 5 a.m.

The two sides were in dispute over a pay cut the teachers say was imposed by the school board. The details of the agreement have not been released.

But schools will be open in Castleton, Fair Haven, Benson and Orwell this morning.
