Vermont State Police and emergency personnel will continue their search this morning for a man believed to have fallen through the ice on Lake Memphremagog.

Police received a report on Saturday night of an ice fishing shanty and a tractor going through the ice.

Through the course of the investigation, police say they determined that it was likely that a man went into the water with the shanty and tractor and did not resurface.

Recovery operations continued throughout the day yesterday. The name of the man is being withheld, pending notification of his family.

State Police say the ice is not safe in all locations and they’re asking people to use extreme caution and to not assume the ice is safe, even if vehicles have already traveled through the area.
