The Senate has advanced a bill that would lower the amounts of cocaine and heroin someone would have to possess before being charged with felony trafficking.

Supporters say the bill is targeted at out-of-state drug dealers, to stop the flow of drugs into Vermont.

Under the bill, a person found with 150 grams of cocaine or 3.5 grams of heroin would face trafficking charges with penalties of up to 30 years in prison and $1 million in fines.
