Senate Calls For Border Crossing To Stay Open

(Host) After the federal government backed off plans to expand a tiny U.S.-Canadian border station by seizing a Vermont dairy farmer’s land, legislators are now urging the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to keep the crossing open.

A Senate resolution calls for the Morses Line port of entry to stay open because communities and businesses in Vermont and Quebec rely on it.

And the resolution says if any renovations are done they should be scaled back from a multimillion expansion and minimize the amount of private farmland taken to reflect the quiet border crossing’s use.

The Senate is expected to give final approval to the resolution Friday and have it sent to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
