The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has unanimously approved the nomination of Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Laplante to be the next U.S. District Court judge in New Hampshire.

Laplante’s nomination will now head to the full Senate for a confirmation vote, which has not yet been scheduled.

Laplante, who is 42, lives in Nashua. He would succeed Judge Joseph DiClerico who assumed senior status earlier this year after 15 years on the federal bench.

Sens. Judd Gregg and John Sununu have each strongly endorsed Laplante’s nomination.
