Senate moves to restore road funding

It’s on to the Vermont House for a Senate-passed bill that would restore a planned cut to town road funding.

Lawmakers had been considering a 50-percent cut in payments scheduled this month to cities and towns for spring road and bridge repairs.

But the Senate action on Friday aims to keep that cut from happening.

Town officials had been protesting loudly, saying the cuts would cause continued deterioration in local roads or increases in city and town property taxes.
