Vermont’s U.S. Senators called on the president today to release fuel from the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve. The fuel reserve is intended for use in case there’s a severe disruption in the fuel supply.

Senators Jim Jeffords and Patrick Leahy said in a joint announcement that rising fuel prices constitute a fuel emergency in the Northeast. President Bush denied a similar request to release fuel from the reserve earlier this month.
