Service board levies fines on utilities

Thirteen of Vermont’s public utilities will have to pay nearly $400,000 in penalties for repeated clerical and administrative errors. The utilities, which include Central Vermont Public Service and Green Mountain Power, gave customers illegal price breaks because of the errors.

The penalties were levied by the Public Service Board, which regulates Vermont utilities. The board said it rejected Verizon Vermont’s part of the settlement for now because the company has continued to violate the regulations. Verizon will have to appear at a hearing in the future to explain its procedures.
