(Host) Vermont’s federal district court judge has been nominated by President Obama to be chairman of the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
Judge William Sessions has served on the panel since 1999 and currently serves as a vice chairman.
The Sentencing Commission is an independent agency in the judicial branch. It helps to set policies on sentencing in federal criminal cases. The commission also advises the president and Congress on similar issues.
Sessions will continue to serve as a district court judge, a post he has held since 1995.
