The Board of Directors of one of Vermont’s oldest senior care facilities is closing its doors in May because of budget problems.
Shard Villa, in Salisbury is closing May 30. Officials say the 130-year-old mansion built by Columbus Smith in the 1870s will be "cocooned" with the intention of reopening in better financial times.
Staff is working to relocate the seven senior clients remaining housed at the facility.
The trustees made the decision to close the facility on Feb. 16
