Sheffield signs aggrement with UPC Vermont Wind

The town of Sheffield and a wind farm developer have signed an agreement.

UPC Vermont Wind would pay the town $400,000 to $500,000 a year in taxes if the proposed wind farm is built.

In exchange, Sheffield would support the developers’ petition to build twenty, 400-foot wind turbines on ridgelines in town.

The Selectboard says it signed the agreement because residents voted in March to support the project.

Residents in neighboring Sutton have voted strongly against the project, which would include six turbines in their town.

A public hearing will be held on the project Monday in Sutton.
