Republican U.S. House hopeful Mark Shepard is challenging his two opponents for the September primary to a debate.

Shepard, a state senator representing Bennington County, says it’s important for Vermont Republicans to hear from all the candidates before a straw poll is conducted at the GOP’s Spring Convention” in Barre on May 20th.

West Pawlet Businessman Dennis Morrisseau says he’d be happy to debate.

A spokesman for former Adjutant General Martha Rainville says Rainville is focused on traveling the state and meeting as many people as possible and so will not participate.

The winner of the GOP primary will face Democratic State Senator Peter Welch in November.
