The man charged with two counts of murder and attempted murder in Thursday’s shooting rampage in Essex has been removed from the state hospital in Waterbury.

Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher A-Williams was sent there to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

But hospital staff determined that Williams was too great a threat to staff and patients to be kept there, so he has been moved back to the state prison in Springfield.

He will undergo a psychiatric evaluation there.

Police say Williams fatally shot his estranged girlfriend’s mother and then went to the Essex Elementary School looking for his ex-girlfriend who had broken up with him the night before.

Police say he shot two of her co-workers. One of those teachers died in the shooting.
