Former Windham County Senator Peter Shumlin is going to get back into politics.

Shumlin, who lost a bid for lieutenant governor in 2002, is going to run this fall for the state Senate seat being vacated by Senator Rod Gander who is not seeking re-election.

Shumlin served in the Senate for a decade until leaving the Senate to seek statewide office.

For the last four years Shumlin has been helping run Putney Student Travel, a program that sends high school students across the globe.

Shumlin says that being out of office has offered him a perspective on the issues faced by Vermont and the nation.
