Slate company challenges state fine

A slate company in Fair Haven is appealing a $45,000 penalty imposed by the state over alleged violations at a processing mill.

Camara Slate Products was cited for violating occupational safety rules in 2005 after failing to address a pair of safety violations dealing with its use of tile-trimming machines with no protective guard.

Camara operates a facility that takes slate, trims it and punches holes in for roofing.

Earlier this year, the state Department of Labor imposed the fine because the violations weren’t corrected.

The company is challenging the fine.
