In 2005 Sgt. First Class James Greene of St. Albans was one of some 400 Vermont National Guard soldiers sent to Ramadi, the capital of Iraq’s Al Anbar Province. At the time it was one of the most dangerous parts of the country. Throughout his 18-month deployment, Greene’s passion for taking pictures became a kind of coping mechanism. This month many of his photos are on exhibit at the Brownell Library in Essex Junction. Recently Greene shared the stories behind some of his pictures with VPR producer Patti Daniels.
