Eight students from Spaulding High School in Barre have been fined after a hazing incident last month. Police in Barre say about two weeks ago somebody called to report seeing several young people being struck by paddles.

Police say they worked with officials at the high school and learned that the young people had been taking part in a high school initiation. One of the students who took part videotaped the hazing, in which upperclassmen hit ninth-graders with a hockey stick, a piece of wood, and other items.

The state’s attorney’s office looked into the incident, and the eight students were fined between a hundred dollars and two thousand dollars.
