State police suspect speed played a role in two deadly car crashes on Vermont roads yesterday.

Route 100 in Eden was closed for several hours after a crash that killed 25 year-old Ashley Allard, of Morrisville.

Police say Allard’s car crossed the center line and hit a dump truck yesterday morning. The dump truck driver was not injured.

Later in the day an Orleans County Sheriff’s Deputy said he witnessed a car speeding down a road in Coventry. When the deputy pursued the vehicle he saw it drive into an intersection and get hit by a truck.

The truck struck the driver’s side door, killing the driver – who has yet to be identified. Two passengers in the car suffered minor injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.

In both crashes, the drivers who were killed were not wearing seatbelts.
