(Host) The Saint Johnsbury Athenaeum will close for six to eight months next year for renovations. The library will move to a temporary site at the Sumner Street school during the construction.

The work will include bringing the building up to date and adding a handicap accessible entrance.

The library’s heating and electrical systems will be replaced. Staff offices and public restrooms will also be built. And the buildings security, sprinkler, telephone and computer systems will be upgraded.

The one million dollar project will be funded mostly by a grant from the Freeman Foundation and the Vermont Public Library Foundation. The library is seeking additional funding.
