The town of St. Johnsbury has settled a lawsuit over a 2009 reappraisal.
The suit, by former Selectman Bernie Timson, was filed over assessment boosts on a storage facility owned by Timson that had its valuation hiked from $86,600 to $397,700.
Under a settlement approved Monday by St. Johnsbury officials in a mediation session, the appraised value of the property will be set at $323,900. Timson, who paid taxes on the property at the higher value in 2009 and 2010, will also get a $5,000 refund.
Town Manager Ralph Nelson tells the Caledonian-Record the town has spent more than $8,000 in legal fees on the case.
