State deliberates speed limit on Bennington Bypass

State officials are rethinking how fast they want motorists to drive on the new Bennington Bypass. The state traffic committee decided more than two years ago to set a speed limit of 60 miles per hour on Vermont Route 279 when it eventually opens. But there’s debate about whether that’s appropriate, because similar roads around the state don’t have that speed limit.

The Bennington Bypass is still under construction. Eventually, it will encircle Bennington in three segments.
