State: Files from closed Bennington building no different

Responding to complaints from workers, the state says files from a now-closed Bennington office building are no different than other files.

Acting Health Commissioner Sharon Moffatt says an investigation by state epidemiologist Doctor Austin Sumner found that files taken from the Bennington State Office Building are no more of a risk to cause illness than other files.

Last month, employees of the state Department of Corrections filed a complaint with the state, saying they had become ill after coming into contact with files from the building.

The building was closed in June 2006 after revelations that at least six present or former workers in it had been diagnosed with sarcoidosis.
