For those unlucky in the state’s moose permit lottery, Vermont’s Fish and Wildlife Department once again is offering a chance to bid on a moose permit at auction.

Those wanting to participate have until July 28 to get a moose permit bid kit from the department and submit the written application for one of five auctioned permits.

Winning bidders will choose to hunt in one of several wildlife management units open to moose hunting and choose one of two hunting seasons — either October 18-23 or October 25-November 2.

Last year bids ranged from $4,272 to $8,001.

Winning bidders also must purchase a hunting license, which are $20 for residents and $90 for nonresidents, and moose hunting permit, which are $100 for residents and $350 for nonresidents.
