Vermont state officials and a private consultant are urging people recently laid off not to despair, despite the announcement that Vermont’s unemployment rate in November rose to 5.7 percent.

Kevin Dorn, secretary of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, says 10 of the 15 companies represented at a recent meeting of the Vermont Software Developers Alliance were looking for workers.

Labor Commissioner Patricia Moulton Powden says education, health services, business and other professional services are still seeing job growth in Vermont.

Markey Read, owner of Career Networks consulting service in Williston, says people looking for work should keep their standards up and not take just any job.
