Defense attorneys for the man charged with killing two people and wounding two others in a series of shootings in Essex are expected to begin presenting their case today.

The prosecution in the trial of Christopher Williams rested yesterday.

Williams is charged with fatally shooting two people and wounding two others. Authorities say he was upset after breaking up with girlfriend.

The defense doesn’t contest he fired the shots. They argue Williams was insane at the time of the shootings.

In court yesterday, Jay Simons, superintendent of the South Burlington jail where Williams was incarcerated after his arrest, said Williams asked him whether he’d get a lesser sentence if he pled insanity.
